Mad people, madness, how beautiful is madness when it is a companion.
When one suffers from madness, one stops suffering from everything else. A mad person can return calmly to the security of childhood, can take up again the games and toys that made them so happy in the past and live once more those magical adventures. In the mind of a mad person, the dolls come back to life, they speak again with the voice of a child. The pets become intelligent and funny beings and all the other mundane problems disappear.
Sometimes madness leads us through dark paths, to live the terror of an endless pursuit or to feel terrible fears and frustrations.
But in the end… who doesn’t want to go mad sometime???
Who wouldn’t want to cross the thresholds at the borders of sanity and run through a toy store pressing buttons and smiling with the possibility of taking home some toy??
Who hasn’t wanted to break the barrier of correctness and tear someone apart who has made us furious??
Who hasn’t wanted to forget all morality, all pain and make love to the person we love regardless of where they are and who is watching??
But most people don’t do it, sanity is a shackle that binds us to reality and that everyone fears losing. Or perhaps it’s just a generalized form of madness that leads us to want to integrate with society, to long for company and success in a world built to prevent us from having it.
Perhaps someone who one day gets up and decides they will no longer follow the rules and enter the path of madness because they can’t take it anymore because there is more pain in reality than in madness, because they are fed up with the life they were given. Perhaps they are right and not us.
What would happen if one day a person goes mad, leaving everything behind to go to their dream lands, that in the middle of their work they start breaking with everything that symbolizes the repression that society, through sanity, has imposed on their life.
What would happen if that person starts shouting I’m mad!!! I’m free!!! No more worries!!! No more work!!! I’m a human being and not a machine!!! I can roll!!! I can feel!!! I am the Man of the Silver Mountain!!!
