On the Silver Mountain, a man who has never seen the light of day wanders through eternal night. His madness makes him scream, curse, weep, and laugh all at the same time, without any control.

But sometimes, just as waves recede from the shore to reveal for a moment precious treasures coming from the depths of the sea, sanity emerges in that man, a dazzling sanity full of a sense that would drive mad anyone who fully understood it.

Those who stay to listen to his speeches, patiently waiting in the distance for the madness to yield for a moment, call him “The Man of the Silver Mountain.”

There once was
(Speech delivered by the Man of the Silver Mountain to a flying insect)

A long time ago, dear friend, there was a world created by a perfect god. That world was as perfect as that god, for any flaw in its design would be evidence of the very imperfection of the deity.

That god did not only create a world, but created millions and millions of forms of life to inhabit it and blessed them all, for as part of himself he loved them all, even the smallest one.

And he gave them that world in which food sprouted from the earth, the air could be breathed, and all dreams could be fulfilled. In that world, if you wanted to fly the air would hold your wings, if you wanted to swim the waters would receive you in their arms, and if you wanted to run the earth would support your race. Even if you had no wings, no fins, no feet, with a little ingenuity you would find what you needed to fulfill your dream.

It is said that even that god created many other empty and uninhabited worlds, for if any of his creatures liked to explore and learn, sooner or later they would have traversed and documented all of his world, so he left them millions and millions of worlds to explore and countless secrets to discover.

And do you know what that god asked his creatures in exchange for letting them stay in that paradise?… Nothing, nothing at all, because a god doesn’t need anything, neither recognition, nor worship nor respect, because a god exists in itself and not in others, as the rest of mortal creatures do.

What that god did was create a law that would guarantee the perfect harmony and functioning of that world. But the god faced a problem: How could he make all living beings know that law regardless of their language, their wealth or poverty, or even their ability to speak or not? How could he make sure that even in the hardest poverty they always carried a copy of that law to know it and follow it?

As a great god, he solved it in less time than you’ve been listening to me, so he wrote his law in that place that everyone would always carry, know and understand: In the heart of every living creature. From there, creatures had feelings and instincts, which were reflections of the law written by that god. Thus, all those creatures who acted based on their instincts never disobeyed that god.

What happened to that god? I already told you that that god didn’t need anything, not even recognition, so he left that world and the creatures in it, and they never knew anything about their creator, for he never needed anything from them and they never needed anything from him.

But something happened. A demon who hated that god saw that magnificent work and decided to corrupt it, for his power wasn’t enough to destroy it.

Then that demon looked at all the species growing and evolving in that world until he found a suitable one for his plan. They were extremely curious beings who started asking questions like: Why is there night and day? Why does the wind blow? Why are we here?

And that demon appeared before them and said, “I am your God, I created the world and created you with a single purpose: to worship me.” Then the demon performed some tricks using his limited power to impress those creatures, raising columns of fire, floods, plagues, miraculous healings, and even resurrection of the dead.

It wasn’t very difficult for those beings who called themselves humans to believe his lies and consider him a god, especially if they had never known any before.

That demon then put his plan into motion, made those creatures abandon the law of their creator by telling them, “Everything that comes from the heart is evil and sin, don’t follow your instincts and fight against the temptations of the flesh.” And the creatures obeyed.

Since that demon was not able to write in the hearts of humans, he gave them a book telling them that this was their mandate, their word, their law, and that all truth was contained in that book.

He made them hate the world they lived in by telling them that the world was evil, and made them dream of a new world, better than the one they had been given in exchange for loyalty and obedience.

Even so, that demon led those creatures into bloody wars, appearing several times with different forms and names to different human colonies, claiming to be the only god and urging them to fight those who denied him, committing crimes in his name.

After some time, humans had become so corrupted that they themselves began to destroy that world, no one remained to follow their instincts and they began to hunt and exterminate the creatures that the demon had not managed to deceive.

Smiling, he sat to watch his work.

But the true god watched everything, and did nothing, for he had faith in his creatures, knowing that someday someone would realize the lies, someone would love the world and its creator without asking for miracles or paradises, someone would stop worshiping the demon, embrace their instincts, and say to the others:

A Wheel!!!, I Can Roll!!!, I Can Feel!!!
