How easy it is to say "I love you"

Chains and links represent the wounds of a past relationship.

How easy it is to say “I love you” when your lips never part from mine.
How easy it is to surrender myself to your caresses and let myself be carried where I breathe your breath and drink from your skin.

However, my mind stops this poor heart that rejoices at your presence, holding it with a weak chain where each link is marked with a sin committed in the name of a dream that could never be.

How easy it would be to let it go, to let it rush toward you and to let it give you all the love it is capable of without looking even once at the consequences of its actions.

How easy it would be to let it leave in your search, dragging those chains that bind it to the past.

But I must not let it go, for while those chains that I did not impose on it but that only I can remove would fall upon you as soon as the heart makes an unexpected turn, hurting you, bringing to you the suffering of each one of them.

Please wait, my beloved, wait until I can cut each of those links that only oppress my chest and take on desperate forms to prevent me from tearing them all out at once.

One by one, slowly, I am tearing out those links. There goes one whose weight was the fear of loneliness, there goes another that kept shouting: “she will come back,” now I cut one that shines with the glow of “I still love her,” and with it I pull two that said “we want her to come back.”

All of them lie lifeless and have been left behind, but there are still several remaining inside, struggling to stay but inevitably leaving in order to give you a heart clean, pure, free of all pain and all sorrow, a heart worthy of you, that you can call your own.

I ask you for nothing, not even that you love me, I only want to love you, I only want to know you, I only want to be near you and drink from the honey of your eyes that never stop looking at me, searching with eagerness the depths of my soul.

Who are you looking for? I don’t know, but whatever you desire from me you will have, including this heart that once I promised never to give to anyone again and that now fights to be by your side.

There are not many links left, the bonds are dissolving with every kiss you give that adheres to my soul. There isn’t much left before I look you straight in the eyes, touch your cheeks, and my lips move to say a simple “I love you” that rises to the heavens, that shouts to infinity, and delivers with that promise every little piece of my being.
